Now, you do have specialized attachments like your rock buckets, but if you want something that is a little more versatile, you would go with something like a light material bucket or a heavy material bucket. What will your bucket handle?

The first and most obvious difference is the types of material these two buckets handle. A light material bucket is intended for lighter, loose material. This would include things like sand, soil, snow and gravel. A heavy material bucket is for larger, heavier materials. This includes chopped wood, large stones and chunks of concrete.

Now, it is true that a light material bucket could be used for some heavy material handling and the same is true in the reverse, but it is the design of the buckets that make them better for their intended purposes. A light material bucket is going to have a high, straight back for pushing and piling light material. Additionally, it is going to have angled sides to help it cut into piles of light material. A heavy material bucket can come in various designs. Instead of the straight back, they are more likely to have a round back or a back that is angled. Additionally, they might have angled sides, but they can also come with straight sides.

Different Attachments, Different Features

Even within the two different categories of material bucket, you will find attachments that have slightly different design features. Some may have additional reinforcement to handle more weight. You can find material buckets that come with different load capacities. And there are material buckets that are designed to work with different types of skid steer loaders.
