The ECHO ECW Excavator Compaction Wheels are heavy-duty attachments designed for efficient trench compaction and backfill work using mini and compact excavators. Built to replace handheld compactors, these wheels use the machine’s downforce to pack soil quickly and consistently.
Available in multiple widths and wheel configurations, the ECW series allows operators to match the attachment to the trench size and machine class. Whether working in narrow utility trenches or wider excavation work, these compaction wheels provide a faster, more consistent method of achieving proper soil density.
What makes this different from a plate compactor or jumping jack?
This compacts from the bottom up using the excavator’s weight, giving more consistent trench compaction.
Do I need hydraulics to run this attachment?
No, this is a non-powered attachment that uses the downforce of your excavator.
Can this compact the full depth of a trench?
Yes, the larger diameter wheel allows deeper compaction compared to smaller wheels that only reach the top layer.
How do I choose the right width?
The wheel width should match your trench size, and we can help spec the right option based on your application.
Will this fit my excavator?
Each unit is built to match your machine’s pin size, spacing, and coupler for proper fitment.
Can I replace my jumping jack with this?
In many trenching applications, yes, this is faster and more efficient for consistent compaction.
Who is this best for?
This is ideal for utility contractors and excavation crews that need reliable trench compaction without extra equipment.
The ECHO ECW Excavator Compaction Wheel is designed for mini and compact excavators, with each unit built to match your machine’s pin size, spacing, and coupler.

Built with AR400 wear components
All ECW models feature AR400 pad foot wheels, providing excellent wear resistance and longer life in abrasive soil conditions.
Maximum durability on larger models
The 36 inch model is built entirely from AR400 steel, making it ideal for high-production work and the toughest jobsite conditions.
Faster than handheld compactors
Use your excavator’s weight and hydraulic control to compact soil quickly without the need for jumping jacks or plate compactors.
Match the wheel to the trench
Multiple sizes and wheel configurations allow you to choose the right setup for narrow trenches or wider applications.
At ECHO Equipment, we actually use and support the equipment we sell. You’re not getting generic answers - you’re talking to people who understand how this equipment works in the field. That means faster answers, better recommendations, and no wasted time trying to figure things out on your own.
We’re easy to work with. If something breaks, tell us what actually happened and be honest with us (a good sense of humor doesn’t hurt either). We’re often known to help out even outside of standard warranty terms. And if it’s on us, we’ll own it and make it right. No excuses, no finger pointing - just real support when it matters.
