The Maxx Attachments 20″ Ranch Axe is a heavy-duty tree shear built for clearing large cedar, juniper, and similar problem trees from pastures, fence lines, and overgrown ground. Formerly part of the Dymax skid steer attachment line, the Ranch Axe uses a dual-cylinder design and a replaceable AR400 steel blade to shear trees up to 20 inches in diameter close to ground level.
The 20″ Ranch Axe comes standard with a 3-foot brushguard to help protect the carrier and operator area while working in heavy growth. It also comes ready for standard-flow skid steer hydraulics with jumper hoses and quick disconnects. An optional 5-gallon chemical spray system can be added to treat freshly cut stumps and help control regrowth while you work.

What is the Maxx Attachments 20″ Ranch Axe?
It is a skid steer tree shear designed for cutting large cedar, juniper, and similar trees during pasture clearing, land management, and property cleanup.
What size trees can the 20″ Ranch Axe cut?
The Ranch Axe is designed to shear trees up to 20 inches in diameter.
What kinds of trees is the 20″ Ranch Axe designed for?
Maxx recommends the 20″ Ranch Axe for cedar, juniper, and similar pasture-clearing applications.
Can it cut hardwood trees?
The 20″ Ranch Axe is not intended for tougher hardwood species such as mesquite, oak, osage orange or hedge, and locust. A different Ranch Axe configuration may be a better fit for those applications.
Does the 20″ Ranch Axe include the brushguard?
Yes. The 3-foot brushguard comes standard.
How much hydraulic flow does it need?
The attachment requires at least 17 GPM of hydraulic flow, with hydraulic pressure not exceeding 3,000 PSI.
How large does the skid steer need to be?
Maxx specifies a minimum operating capacity of 2,100 lb. Because the attachment weighs about 2,000 lb. before adding the optional spray system, carrier capacity and stability should be checked carefully.
What does the chemical spray option do?
The optional 5-gallon spray system lets the operator apply chemical treatment to freshly cut stumps, making it easier to control regrowth without making a separate pass through the property.
Does the chemical spray system come standard?
No. The 5-gallon chemical spray system is optional.
How much does the spray system add to the attachment weight?
The spray system weighs approximately 80 lb., bringing the combined weight of the Ranch Axe and spray system to about 2,080 lb.
Does it come with hydraulic hoses and couplers?
Yes. Maxx provides jumper hoses and quick disconnects for standard-flow hydraulic connections.
Is the cutting blade replaceable?
Yes. The single-bevel AR400 steel blade is replaceable when worn.
Is this the same Ranch Axe people may know from Dymax?
Yes. The former Dymax skid steer attachment line is now sold and supported as Maxx Attachments.
Note: Because the 20″ Ranch Axe weighs about 2,000 lb. before adding the optional spray system, machine size and operating capacity matter just as much as hydraulic flow. The carrier should have at least 2,100 lb. of operating capacity, provide a minimum of 17 GPM, and stay within the attachment’s 3,000 PSI maximum pressure.
